Edward Saunders wrote and illustrated 'The Dental Appointment' when he was just 11 years old. A happy, clever, handsome and fun-loving boy, he dreamed of one day publishing his own book. Tragically, at the age of 18 years, he died after contracting meningitis and was robbed of the opportunity to become an author. Determined to let Edward's dream come true, his parents and sister Emily have published this book in his memory. We hope you enjoy his humorous tale.
The chairperson for British Society of Paediatric Dentistry, Claire Stevens, described Ed’s view of dentistry as “remarkably insightful” for a boy of just 11 years.
We have produced a high quality book which has brought Edward's drawings to life whilst retaining the authenticity of the original work.
Aspects of Edward's life have been integrated throughout the illustrations in the book, including his much loved monkey Bongo, his guitar and family photographs.
Printing and distributing the book is always the main challenge; we have tried to do this for as little cost as possible. The book will be available to buy June 2015.
All profits from book sales will be donated to Meningitis Now. To find out more about meningitis, go to the Meningitis Now website.
